2 Simple St. Patrick’s Day Crafts for Kids

These simple St. Patrick’s Day crafts for kids will take you 30 minutes or less (depending on how many leprechaun questions to you get!) and become a personalized green addition to your little one’s holiday outfit. I have fond memories of celebrating St. Patrick’s Day as a Catholic school girl and continue the traditions of celebration with the kids. I found everything I needed in Walmart’s Craft aisle while shopping for grocery’s the other day, making this simple kid’s craft easy for mom, too! Big thanks to Walmart for sponsoring this post.

Simple St Patricks Day Crafts for Kids: Hair Bow and Bracelets

Simple St. Patrick’s Day Craft #1: Hair Bow

To make this quick and easy St. Patrick’s Day hair bow, you’ll need:

– 2 Coordinating ribbons (one 1.5 in wide, the other 7/8in wide) cut 12 inches in length: My girl isn’t Irish, but I know lots of biracial kids who are! And, just like Cinco de Mayo celebrations here in the States, you don’t have to be Irish to honor the traditions and heritage of those who are. We chose a primary green, polka dotted ribbon to accent the pink hued, rainbow.

– Embellishment for center piece: Have you been in Walmart’s craft section lately?! I was so excited to find these $2 packets of color sorted beads. I picked up a green and orange packet, because that’s the colors of the Irish flag, and used a simple orange bead to center the bow.

– Wire: My glue gun is in storage, so I need a simple way to keep the bow together. This green wire bundle for $1 was in a bin next to the beads, making the shop for this project super easy. Yay!

– Hair clips: I used the ones pictures since it was easiest to wind the wire through, but feel free to use whatever works best on your little one’s hair.

To make the St. Patrick’s Day Hair Bow:

Layer the two ribbons on top of each other with the wider ribbon on bottom. Wrap them so the ends meet, making a circle. Pinch the center and start wrapping the wire around the ribbons to secure the bow. String an embellishment or two to create a center piece for the bow. Continue wrapping, through the hair clip as well, until the bow is sturdy. You’ll see a bit of wire, but for this simple project, we didn’t mind.

Does a kid’s craft get any easier than this?! But what I really love is that these beaded bangles are personalized by my girl, helping her fine motor skills as we strung the beads onto the wire and pinched the ends together. We also had the chance to talk about the Irish flag and what the green, orange and white colors represent. Check out our Irish Culture Party for all the details we’ve been teaching the kids!

To make this simple craft, just weave the beads onto wire and secure at the ends. Make sure you’ve removed sharp ends and edges.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
