30 Weeks Pregnant: The Second Trimester

I am officially into my thrid trimester with little mister man! And although the excitement of kissing his sweet cheeks are slowly becoming a reality, I am sad to see the glory days of the second trimester go. You know,  those days when your belly is pretty and round, your energy is high and the stiff joints haven’t quite taken hold. Oh ya, those last few months are not the business. {Please excuse the poor picture quality… indoor photography with kit lens is not the business, either.}

My sweet boy is quite the mover and shaker… he especially enjoys stretching my right side to its maximun. It is not uncommon for my giant belly to be sloped unevenly or catch a glimpse of it jumping into the air. His movemets are that forceful! But, as long as he is happy and growing, Momma will deal with the occasional cracked rib 🙂
Alina loves her baby brother. She says good morning and good night to him {the belly}. She teases him by saying ” I see your buttom, baby brother!!”. She asks him what he’s doing in there and quickly seconds the question with “Done cooking, baby brother?”. Alina will absolutely be a wonderful sibling to our second child, although it is still hard for me to refer to her as a “big sister”. Who said my baby is allowed to be a big anything???
Today I am techincally 31 weeks, and after visiting the Doc this afternoon, I am measuring at exactly 31 cm {I always measured 1-2 weeks ahead with Alina} and have gained about 10 pounds so far. Not too shabby, considering I hadn’t entirely lost all of Alina’s baby weight {because, that weight was CERTAINLY not mine!}. Doc says I have anywhere between 4 to 8 pounds to gain still. Did you hear that? That was a huge sigh I just let out… the daunting task of weight loss is already heavy on my mind….
In addition to my expanding midsection, some other changes have occurred relating to our baby boy. For starters, we named him! The more I refer to him by his proper name, the more I love it. He has become his moniker in my eyes. It is a brilliant name of cross cultural identity, and we feel confident that our son will embrace it wholeheartably. Our other name choice we loved is my Mother-in-law’s maiden name. What I loved most was honoring such a beautiful woman in the life of my son, and that nearly became the only reason I needed. But, after discussing the option with my grandmother, it became clear to me that it would isolate my Spanish identity. My grandmother simply could NOT say it! Ha! Isn’t that crazy? In any case, Daddy D was the one to finally decide our son’s name. I love that he loves me so much to not want to isolate any part of me in any part of him. Regardless of name choice, my son is already a lucky kid for having such a great Dad.
Secondly, his nursery is making progress as well.!Walls are painted in two toned paint {light grey on  top, darker shade of grey on bottom}, crib and dresser will be moved in and window treatment completed this weekend. The Hubs is pooking around at work for someone who has a nail gun to borrow so we can install chair rails in both kids’ room {to save on cost}. Otherwise, we are well on our way to having two kids in two functional, decorated rooms. Goodness, I feel very old all of a sudden! Be on the look out for pictures of the baby’s room soon!
Thanks for letting me share our joy and lives with you, beloved readers! Ya’ll are amazing.

    You’re glowing and so is Alina! She’s gonna be the best big sis ever. You hubby is so sweet for wanting to include your culture. That’s love! Thanks again for that hair post you did a while back. I tried it on Princess’s hair. So far so good!

    Amiga you look amazing! Oh how you make me wish the preggo days! Y tu nena que linda! She already seems like a very loving big sister! I am so excited for you for picking a name for your baby boy. We too thought about how others in our family would pronounce our sons name but in the end we loved it and that’s all that mattered our family embraced it and were just excited a healthy baby boy was on his way! I cannot wait to see the nursery!!!
