Alina’s Big Girl Room: The Inspiration

So many changes have been happening over here, least of which having to do with Alina. A new house means a new room for my sweet girl, and with a new brother also on the way, we decided to make the transition from nursery to big girl room. I have to admit, it has been hard on me to even fathom the idea. My baby? A big girl? But its true… we have a baby coming, who needs the nursery furniture, which makes Alina a big sister and a big girl. Get over it, Mom.

When a very dear friend of mine gave me this card for my first Mother’s Day, I knew it would become the color palate for Alina’s next room. I love it! So sweet, so girly, yet not so babyish. Maya {the friend who gave me the card years ago} loves Alina so much and its only fitting that her influence be made on this special space of her’s.

I started to pin a few big girl rooms I’ve found on Pintrest. I love certain elements of all the rooms, and hope that Alina’s will have the same shabby chic feel. I love how sweet and innocent the rooms feel, perfect for a little darling heading into her young years of worldly awareness. Alina will likely go punk rock on me later on, not that anything is wrong with punk rock, but I’m getting my girly phase while I still can…

We have four rooms in our home, all of which are of decent size. But after the master, Alina’s is the biggest at nearly 12 feet by 14 feet. Ya, it’s big. My Sister has been nothing short of a miracle in helping me get this house organized, and that is the case with Alina’s room too. Since taking these pictures, we dealt with a crazy pink issue {think Pepto pink…eh} that we have since fixed, but here are some pictures of Alina’s room before major attention had been paid to it…

Big, right?! It wouldn’t even fit in one frame! Here is what Auntie and I have up our sleeves for Alina’s big girl room:

- Chair rail {with possible box molding below}
- Two toned paint
-Yummy window treatments
-Hand painted, vintage dresser
-Possible bench or reading nook
-Same chandelier from her nursery

We still don’t have any great ideas for wall decor, so if you have any thoughts feel free to share with us! Maybe a frameless mirror? Shelving for toys and books? And what to do on the wall above her bed?! Speaking of Alina’s big girl bed, it is BIG. Queen size, to be exact. It was Alina’s Auntie’s for many years and she is so sweet to be passing it down to Alina. Here is a tiny peak of the bedding {Auntie and her Maya were the driving force behind Alina’s bedding…what a loved girl!} we have chosen…

I hope Alina loves her big girl room, complete with big girl bed, and finds it to be a place of serenity. She is already so excited with the new paint color! My Sister loves her niece so much, and I love having a partner in design that puts every bit of her heart into our projects. What would I do without her?! Hopefully I’ll be able to show you the finished product very soon. Next up: Baby Boy’s Nursery!

Happy Tuesday!

  1. I love the theme ….like a shabby chic girly room! the colors are so fun and pretty and not too babyish! Im sure it will be amazing and I can’t wait to see pics!

  2. It’s going to be so sweet! Can’t wait to see it. A reading corner sounds fun. They make miniature unfinished bookcases. I did one years a go for my daughter and painted it white then put floral wallpaper (or fabric) inside. That with a miniature chair would be cute.

  3. Okay I’m soo jealous you get to do a girls room!
    Here’s my take {and I hope you don’t mind me searching around for images for you! Maybe even a mood board? :) }
    I have to say, I wouldn’t paint the room pink. We painted my step-daughters pink and she quickly grew out of it but we paid a pretty penny to have it done so we’re holding out a few more years to repaint it. I think it’s a tad smarter to pick a color that will last and use lots of the pink in the accessories, those are easily changed out, unless of course you are painting it yourself and don’t mind repainting when she’s over the pink. Looooove the vanity! Plueeze get one! I saw some beauties at the flea market recently and I was just dying. You could easily spruce up an old brown one {check out censationalgirl.com for the best furniture painting tips}, you can even add that flower detail. Looove chair rails! And soo love a chandelier. I need one in my house, maybe in the closet. Anyways, have fun doing this!! And post pics of course!

  4. Haha… ohhh, its a bit too late for the “no pink paint advice”, but we love to paint over here {my sister and I used to change paint colors/furniture arrangements at whim}, so its not a big deal. But thanks for the heads up!

    Be prepared for this space to as girly as you can possibly imagine..pink, pink and more pink. With a dash of shabby chic :)

  5. Beautiful!!!!! I love it all!!! :D Have an amazing weekend!!! :D
