Best Father’s Day Gift For Hard Working Dads: Office Makeover!

Father’s Day is around the corner and I was having a heck of a time deciding what to do for Daddy D. He’s amazing and deserves the best Father’s Day gift out there. But what is that, exactly? Some people have a knack at giving great gifts. I have a friend who is flawless in this department – everything is beautifully packaged, adorned with ribbons galore. But when she gifted me a subscription to Better Homes and Gardens as a house warming present, she took the cake for efficient and functional, as well. Those gifts are the really awesome ones: the ones you never knew you needed but can no longer live without!

Walmart challenged me to come up with a great Father’s Day post and, with work taking so much out of him these days, the only thing my husband wants is a six month vacation. Knowing that Walmart was sold out of those, I decided to do the next best thing: make over his office space!

Best Father’s Day Gift: An Office Makeover!

So sure, D would never ask for an office makeover on Father’s Day. Who wants to think about work on a day of celebration? But he’s been in this office a long time and it’s never been given attention. It was time to give some love to Daddy D’s work space!

This is how I got started on his Father’s Day Office Makeover:

1. Wall Decor: D is limited to two personal items for wall decor, so I wanted large pieces. I decided to go with two poster frames – one matted as a collage, the other as a single opening – to create the biggest visual impact. The casual Mainstay frames from Walmart was the perfect solution. I was able to get two large frames for about $20. The frames I got are not glass, making them extremely light weight, and were hung with Command Strips (aka the best invention known to man). The collage frame is filled with images, while the other frame houses a drawing Alina made. It’s endearing and makes for a fun conversation starter.

As a side note, have you seen the Mahogany greeting card line by Hallmark? Holy cuteness! Walmart had an amazing selection for Father’s Day.

2. We surprised him: If I would have told D we were coming to makeover his office, he would have freaked out. So we said we were meeting him for lunch. He was shocked to see me walking up with bags of supplies!

3. Cleaning Supplies: It’s a good thing Walmart is a one stop shop because, while picking up frames and photo prints, I decided to buy cleaning supplies… just in case. Wowza. Let’s just say D’s office needed a woman’s touch. While he showed off his babies to co-workers, I was in the trenches dusting and disinfecting the place.

4. Relaxation Tools: D’s job can be high stress and he has nothing in his office to aid in relaxation. Since we had an old music dock and mpg player just sitting at home, I decided it should get back to work… literally! The set now sits happily on D’s desk, waiting to play his favorite Anthony Hamilton joints on repeat.

5. Scavenge and Arrange: I didn’t go scouring through files or anything, but this man had beautiful awards still in boxes and heart felt letters of thanks haphazardly tucked into other frames. First, I dusted. And then, I arranged a few of the trinkets and letters so that he can see them.

Obviously there’s more planned to our Father’s Day celebration than a work place makeover. Plenty of pampering and relaxing is scheduled for this weekend. And honestly, even D thought this office makeover was “for a post”… as if dusting is something I enjoy doing!

I’m a firm believer in energy. It’s hard for me to focus or perform when my surroundings aren’t optimal. So as D has come home in the days since the makeover, commenting on how so-and-so loved Alina’s drawing or that he isn’t sneezing as much or how it makes him feel to see his awards displayed, I just….. smile.

Because that’s what a good wife does on Father’s Day. 🙂

I love this! Mine drives a semi so it’s kind of hard to “make over” that! I’ve bought him cleaning supplies, mini vacuum, and accessories before but that’s all I can really “do”> Totally LOVE the idea though!
Can you put us on that waiting list for 6 month vacations from Walmart?!?!? <3
