Deal or Bust: Saving You Money, One Donation At A Time

Deal or Bust: Saving You Money, One Donation At A Time

Raise your hand if you like to save money? And since I already know my readers are some of the kindest, most thoughtful bunch out there, I won’t even ask how you feel about making charitable donations and spending your resources conscientiously.

Let me introduce you to Deal or Bust, a Las Vegas deal site that saves you up to 50% to 90% while offering up a large percentage of the deal’s profits to the charitable recipient. In a nutshell, Deal or Bust allows local charities to raise money through the sales of daily deals. When you buy, you are raising money too! Just think of all fun possibilities that teaming up with Deal or Bust can do for a nonprofit… it’s like taking the community bake sale to the virtual world and expanding the profit potential immensely. And since a Vegas deal site wouldn’t be complete without a spin of the wheel, once the Bust-O-Meter hits, a winner is made and they receive their deal for FREE!! Como say whaaat! Yup, free!

I LOVE the idea and, after meeting the founders and owners of Deal or Bust, have fallen in love with their mission even more. After running successful business in the past, Jason and Kristin Smith decided that what was most important to them was giving back directly to their community. Not watered down ideologies either. Straight forward, honest monies going directly to charitable organizations.

Obviously, I was thrilled with the opportunity to work with such local talent, but when they told me I could pick my own charitable organization to receive a deal’s portion of profits, I couldn’t resist. I knew in a heartbeat who I would pick… Catholic Charities of Souther Nevada – Meals On Wheels Program.

Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada – Meals on Wheels has been serving homebound seniors in the Las Vegas area since 1975. They provide nutritional meals and other services to homebound seniors, regardless of religious beliefs, race, creed, or national origin, which helps them maintain their health, independence and dignity. Because of their long standing stance against hunger, local Las Vegas {homebound} seniors are able to receive seven nutritionally balanced, frozen meals to over 1,300 clients each and every week all through the year. According to Meals On Wheels:

Annually 474,000 meals are prepared from scratch; then packaged, sealed and labeled; and then bagged and delivered in refrigerated/freezer trucks by our caring delivery drivers. We are the only home-delivered meal program for seniors in Las Vegas that provides meals at no cost to the client; and the only organization that delivers therapeutic meals citywide. Diabetic, chopped, and pureed meal plans are available for seniors with special nutritional needs.

Caring for elderly is not something new to me. Having grown up as the youngest of 5 generations {that’s right… I was lucky enough to have a Great-great Grandmother until the age of 20}, I know how independence can be stripped from the elderly. Watching my Great-grandmother Margo, who basically raised me after my parents divorced, take her last breath on this earth is something I remember every day. But unfortunately, the elderly are often the forgotten population in our society and in social services. Finding adequate care and resources for the elderly without family support {unlike the elderly in my family, who are loved and adored} can be near impossible. I know this first hand from my career in nonprofits and social services. And that just isn’t right.

Specifically, I believe no one deserves to go hungry in this rich country of ours, and that includes our elderly.

This is why I support Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada – Meals On Wheels Program.

  1. Great post, Vanessa. I agree with you about the need for support and services for the elderly…it’s important to remember that not everyone has a family gathered around. It’s great that the Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada will get a portion of the sales at Deal or Bust.

  2. Wow Vanessa. First what a wonderful way to make donating to charity so simple! Deal or Bust is a wonderful idea. I wonder if it exists in the NY Metro area? Also, I love your choice of a charitable organization. Catholic Charities does so much for so many people all over the US. Finally, I am blown away by the fact that you got to know your great, great grandmother. I hope someone took a photo of all 5 generations. You were really fortunate to get to experience that.
