Developmental Milestones: Sitting Tall And Reaching For The Sky

Oh My Sweet Boy,

You are heading towards my most favorite days of babyhood. This is when you reach some big developmental milestones that begin to show the nature of your personality, and I gotta say… I like you more and more everyday. Not to say that I love you any different than before, but as I get to know you better, I begin to notice nuances of your temperament that make you so very adorable. Like your Sister, you are cautiously observant at first, followed by a beautiful excitement for life once you’ve gotten a handle of your environment. Unlike when your Sister was a baby, you are pretty much always happy. You make me wonder why I was so worried about having a boy in the first place… loving you is SO easy!

A few days into your 3rd month of life, you began to use your hands. You held your toys, examined them close and entwined your fingers in excitement. This was absolutely so fun to watch you learn! It feels as though only days after that, you started to reach for the toys hanging above you. You moved slow, learning how the toys twirled with your movements. You were very pensive during this process. You delicately held that little butterfly. In those days, handing you a toy to examine would always give me a few minutes to tend to your Sister or whatever else I had to do… you are an inquisitive, little guy!

Closer to the when you turned 4 months, Cousin Stephie prompted me to try out your exercauser… and you loved it! At first, like with your hanging toys, you played quietly. You twisted about, moving from each station, playing with each different toy. Looking at your facial expressions as the toys spin or made a noise made my heart swell… I love watching you learn!

And then it happened, without me even realizing it, you were sitting up. Only half way towards your 5th month, you are sitting like a big boy! The last 4-6 weeks have been filled with development milestones galore, from sitting tall to reaching for the toys in the sky! I simply cannot believe how quickly this is all happening!

Now, you are not so pensive with your playing. You wildly move those hanging butterfly, knocking them over until they sing their sweet tune. You jump with excitement in the exercauser, pulling and chewing on everything. Sebastian, you have become an expert at your little baby toys and it’s hard to imagine that one day soon you will be crawling. Where does the time go?!

I love you, my sweet boy. So much so that I couldn’t wait another two weeks to write your 5 month love letter. There was just too much to document! Reaching for the sky and sitting up like a big boy are two very important development milestones that warrant their own letter.

I am proud that you are my son, my beautiful boy. Momma will always be here to help you reach for the sky and sit tall, because you should proud of yourself too.
