Disneyland “I’m Lost” Safety Printable for Little Ones

Theme Park Safety for Little Ones

So, here’s the thing: when it comes to my kid’s safety, I’m over the top. I’m tempted to call it “typical Latina mom behavior”, but whatever it is, I’m pretty much crazy about knowing where my little ones are at all times.  Seeing as this was our first trip to Disneyland, I put a ton of thought in theme park safety. I knew that my kids would likely bolt in opposite directions, that it would take more than just my two hands to keep them safe and, also, that I had to be prepared if the horrifying lost-kid scenario occurred. This is my ultimate responsibility.

When you have very young kids, you can’t just tell them, “meet me here if you get lost”. And while Alina and I discussed theme park safety rules with a coloring page, no one would understand Sebastian if they asked for his name, etc. So long before we hit the road for our first trip to Disneyland, I visited our local Walmart for a few supplies that would help keep my babies safe. Thanks to Walmart for sponsoring this post!

I created a customized printable to use for both kids in the event that they get lost at Disneyland (free download below). I bought various size Ziploc bags while grocery shopping at Walmart. This was my thinking… while I wanted the “I’m Lost” badge to be visible, I did not want our contact information and my son’s name readily available for everyone to see. If I laminated it, the risk of it flipping over to show that info was too high. By using a Ziploc bag, I could lay the contact info behind the “I’m Lost” layer (keeping it private), yet allowing a good Samaritan the ability to easily rip open the Ziploc. Resize the printable to whatever size you need, then cut the Ziploc for a custom fit.

To attach the whole thing was more completed. My little ones don’t wear necklaces, and especially Sebastian, aren’t keen on badges or bracelets or anything less that can easily be taken off. This, however, had to stay on. At all times. I was grateful to be shopping at Walmart when putting this project together because I’ve never seen Fabric Fuse at other stores (and I didn’t want to trek to a craft store). It’s located in Walmart’s fabric section and they offer a variety of widths. This was my first time using a no-sew product and it was awesome! And easy!

At first, I had decided to put Sebastian’s badge on top of his t-shirt where it would be visible. But my mom quickly freaked out: “Ay Dios mio, do you think we had “I’m Lost” badges when you were little? I’ve taken you to Disneyland a hundred times and have never ever lost you. Deja el niño en paz!” I totally ignored her. And then she said, “Anyway, people are going to think he’s lost all day.”

She was right.

So I put the badge on the inside of his t-shirt, on top of his onesie, and said a prayer that no one would have to use it.

Alina’s location was easier to decide (it was under her dress, on top of her pettiskirt) because she’s old enough to take if out and hand it to a Disney employee (as instructed) if lost.

After a 14 Day Disneyland Countdown, and two days at the park, our first Disneyland trip concluded as a complete success! Imaginations were fed, bonding was had and not a single kid was lost. In fact, between Daddy D, my mom and sister, I had more than enough help keeping tabs on my precious babies. Even still, taking this effort was a small one to make for the security I felt. I’ll be using them again, I’m sure.

I hope no one’s child ever get lost while at Disneyland, and that theme park safety is not a big concern for “over protective” parents (like me). But, we all know how easy it is to lose a kid. It happens to the most observant parents. This simple “I’m Lost” badge can help lessen the trauma an experience like that might have.

OH this is such a great idea. I always fear about my sons out in public places and getting lost. My sons are more adventurous and curious, well the youngest is than my daughter ever was at their ages. I have shared this printable with other friends online.

    Vanessa,
Thank you so much for this fantastic printable! We’re taking our very first Disneyland trip with my girls for their 4th and 5th Birthday. I know I’ll breathe a little easier knowing that if they do get lost (God forbid) they’ll be wearing this tag and be returned to me safely ASAP. I did have a question about what fonts you used. I don’t seem to be able to find a match in my regular set and my OCD is screaming, lol! Thank you again!

The printable when clicked, does nothing. Is there something wrong with the link? I’d love to make one as well. Such a great idea!
