Easter 2011

Why does having a child make holidays so much fun? Where we would have otherwise spent the day lounging, probably watching sports and eating, having Alina in our lives motivates my Husband and I to instill traditions of family gatherings and fun gearing up to and on special occasions. I don’t know. Maybe Easter 2011 wasn’t so different than other years. I guess we did eat and watch sports {the boys did}. But we also got together to dye eggs, had an egg hunt and watched the girls be silly, screaming and dancing in their adorable matching dresses and flower head bands that my Cousin made. It seemed more special to me anyway. Perhaps every holiday will inherently be more special from now on; now that I have my little girl to share them with.

Friday night my Cousin Stephanie had us over to dye eggs. Alina wasn’t quite aware of the process, but certainly had a fun time. She really loves her baby Payton, which is interesting because we don’t get the girls together nearly as often as we should. Pay is really funny and copies all the silly noises Alina makes, which makes Alina laugh so hard! Its like they have their own inside jokes already. It makes me happy to see them get along so well.

Easter Sunday morning was spent at my Sister’s house. But before heading over, we let Alina discover her Easter basket outside. Daddy D and I had a blast watching her uncover the treasures! Alina’s basket was filled with wooden musical instruments {perfect for our singing and dancing extraordinaire}, a lil’ yellow bunny and a few eggs filled with Annie’s Homegrown bunny-shaped graham crackers. It was a simple basket, but Alina was thrilled with it nonetheless.

Once at Aunties, it didn’t take long before we set the girls loose on their Easter egg hunt. Alina and Payton had a great time filling up their baskets while the adults had a great time watching and taking pictures. Alina inspected the eggs and placed each one in her tiny basket while Payton was on Speedy Gonzalez tempo. They were so cute! It truly was a beautiful day in Las Vegas.

For brunch, we all brought a dish or two, which worked out perfectly. There was so much food! Quiches, ham, potato casserole, and strawberry spinach salad were just some of the yummies on the menu. I made a moist Banana Apple Bread and a Mango Pineapple Salad. Alina loved the bread, and I’m pretty sure everyone else did too. That also makes me very happy.

Alina’s Auntie got she and Payton swim suits and a Disney princess beach towel {spoiled I tell you! Easter packages came from all over the United States for this girl!}, so the plan was to enjoy the baby pool in her neighborhood for an hour or so, then my family was going to attend the evening service of a church we wanted to visit {my Husband and I have been on a church hunt, so to speak}. But, sadly, those plans did not come to fruition. Not sure if you noticed, but my baby had quite the runny nose yesterday. She also had a very slight fever and, although she had a great time, Alina was not the happiest camper. She has four teeth that just won’t break through and her Daddy’s terrible allergies, so shortly after brunch we took her home so she could rest after a fun filled day. She is doing much better today.

I hope that your family enjoyed the holiday in exactly the way you feel is special. Whether there are children involved or not, holidays give us a wonderful reason to reunite within our communities and families to create cherished memories. I know that my family did just that yesterday.
