Looking for a Dream Come True in the Beauty of Silence

Looking for a Dream Come True in the Beauty of Silence

I love to be social. I love connecting and fellowship. I yearn to feel part of a community. Sometimes friendly competition illuminates my strengths in ways that everyday motivation simply cannot. Almost always the successes of my favorite people prompt me to look closer at the life I'm leading, the legacy I'm creating, and push me onward to greater - greater work, greater love, greater. Sometimes - many and most times -  I love being a blogger. And sometimes, the beauty in silence awakens my spirit unlike anything else. In many ways, culture plays a big part of this desire for … [Read more...]

A Love Letter to My Son at Two Years Old

A Love Letter to My Son at Two Years Old

Before I became a mother, I wrote love letters to my children. In my thoughts, through poetry, in analysis of my self doubt, I started to document the progression of their lives. Before I even met their father, I yearned to have a son to love and mold into the type of man I wish the world had more of. And so, how incredibly blessed am I, as I sit to write this love letter to my son on his second birthday? Beautifully Blessed By You, My Son Querido Sebastian, I wonder if a little boy grows out of needing love letters from his mama? Do you think you'll ever grow tired of reading my words to … [Read more...]

Savoring the Last Weeks of Having a Baby

Savoring the Last Weeks of Having a Baby

From Baby to Mom's Super Hero When Alina was just an itty baby, I saw a status update in my Facebook stream that caused me to pause and breathe in gratitude over the moments I was living. My friend, a mother of three girls, was lamenting over the loss of her last's baby stage. She said something like, "I've been letting Sally sleep in our bed lately. Bob isn't happy, but since she's our last baby, I want to soak this all in." (names changed) At the time, I thought it was interesting that a mother would change her parenting strategy because of baby stages. Since, with my first child, I was … [Read more...]

Love Letter to My 4 Year Old And A Legacy I’m Proud Of

Love Letter to My 4 Year Old And A Legacy I’m Proud Of

I've been writing love letters to my daughter for almost three years now. I started De Su Mama shortly after Alina turned a year old. At that point, I had no idea how the incredible parenting adventure I'd be taken on would change my life. I had no idea how much I'd fall in love. As a baby, I was desperate to protect her. As a toddler, I was challenged to develop her. As a preschooler, now, I'm in awe of her. As Alina herself would tell you, we are not friends - I am her mother, and she is my daughter - but I'd be lying if I didn't say she's pretty much everything I need in a friend. In one … [Read more...]

Querido Sebas: Love Letter To My Son At 18 Months

Querido Sebas: Love Letter To My Son At 18 Months

This love letter to my son comes just a couple weeks after he turned a year and a half old. Honestly though, it feels like he has been with us since forever. I probably take his babyhood for granted. Devoting a bit of time to write out his love letters seems even more prudent then, because the memories of his early years will very soon be lost to new memories we make together. One thing is for sure: I adore this baby boy of mine... Querido Sebastian, Why am I so surprised that you've turned into a big little boy? This month you turned 18 months and I am shocked - shocked that my son … [Read more...]

Beautiful Curly Mixed Hair {Wordless Wednesday}

Beautiful Curly Mixed Hair {Wordless Wednesday}

I Love Her Curly Mixed Hair We had so much fun on our first big vacation as a family of four. My favorite time spent was lounging on the beaches of Southern Florida, watching my babies play in the sand. With sunscreen lathered on her pretty brown face, my daughter looked radiant to me. Goodness, she's grown up so fast. I especially loved her hair, which soaked up the sun and ocean water to create defined strands of beautiful ringlet curls. Alina, I'm so happy that the humidity and pace of tropical living suits you. I have always loved visiting Miami, soaking up the crazy Cubans, … [Read more...]
