Valentine’s Day Scrapbook Layout

valentines day craft, family legacy craft, velentines day DIY

What’s not to love about my baby girl picking some cheery daffodils on a drizzly February day in Atlanta? I’m not sure if your little ones do this, but Elena thinks every flower is meant for picking.  I thought this picture was priceless since it captured the moment when she plucked yet another flower from its stem. It’s precious—so I just had to use it for a Valentine’s Day scrapbook page!

Today I’m sharing how I start a scrapbook page.  I begin by drawing color inspiration from the photograph itself. In this case, yellow was my first choice and then pink since it picked up the word “L-O-V-E” on her jacket.  Sifting through my supplies and arranging embellishments and papers next to each other is a fun part of the process.

Then I find a patterned paper that I like that complements the colors I’ve chosen and relates to the story I am telling. In this case, a floral paper with hints of yellow and pink fit the bill. This heart-shaped felt ribbon is from the $1 area at Target. You can’t tell in the pictures here, but Elena’s pants have little hearts on them, so this ribbon picks up on the shape but at a different scale.

Once I have a good amount of material to begin with I will usually take a break and then come back and look at everything I’ve gathered and pick my favorites and place them on the background paper.  The background paper I’ve used here is a thick piece of real wood veneer. It has a beautiful texture and natural veining.

Then I play around with my tools like practicing with my date stamp to get a clear impression on my paper and experimenting with different pens on the paper I want to journal on.
