Recent Craiglist Find: Boy or Girl?

I was browsing Craigslist on Monday and an amazing deal fell into my lap! My search keywords were something like “pottery barn” or “toddler furniture”, so I was completely taken aback when I saw the listing pop up. But before I tell you what I found, let me rewind a bit…

At our first trimester ultrasound, I was exactly 13 weeks and 6 days. Basically hours from being 14 weeks. My husband, Alina and I all crammed into the ultrasound room while the tech gave us her prediction of our second child’s gender. It was the same tech that told us Alina would be a precious girl when I was less than 13 weeks pregnant years ago. She seemed even more certain of her prediction this time around, so we left the appointment on cloud nine.

Well, to rewind even further, a friend of mine was told the gender of her baby very early in her pregnancy {like me} and the prediction turned out to be wrong. Instead of a boy, she was pregnant with a {very} swollen little girl. Every parent’s priority is a healthy baby, not a single parent would say otherwise. But it just kind of sucked for them to expect one thing for it to turn out differently, especially after telling all their friends and family.

Determining the gender of your baby at 13, 14, 15 weeks is pretty exciting… but you aren’t even half way through your pregnancy. I can hear my Step Mom saying “back in my day, you had to wait 40 weeks to find out what you are having! You girls are so spoiled!”. While I understand that nothing is 100% accurate until the moment you see your child in the flesh, to say we are excited to find out whether our baby is a girl or boy is an understatement.

So, I immediately sent this picture to a close friend of mine, who is also an ultrasound technician in California. Because of the our mutual friend’s experience, she refused to take a guess and said that it could be what we thought it was or a swollen something else. Sorry for the cryptic talk; I’m not quite clear on what is acceptable online language when referring to this kind of stuff! {And to my sweet baby #2: Sorry for blasting your junk for the world to see. Love, your Mommy}

So, back to Craigslist, while looking around I came across a listing entitled something like “50% off 3d/4d Ultrasounds”. I clicked, called Daddy D and made an appointment… for TODAY! Turns out, this cute little boutique style ultrasound studio will often run these Craigslist deals on days that are slow {usually Tuesdays and Wednesdays} in order to fill in empty time slots. A “Gender Check” package is regularly $55, and half off was just the right price to get us in the door.

I am 15 weeks exactly today, so we are hoping for some definitive news. Stay tuned….
