Savannah At Night

Savannah At Night

The Avia Hotel is in the center Savannah’s Historic District and within walking distance of everything. After we valeted the car, it did not come out again for the next 2 days. Once unpacked, Jess and I bundled the babies and set out for dinner and an evening stroll. Savannah at night is just gorgeous! We started in City Market, a pedestrian walk way lined with restaurants, boutiques and sweet candy shops.

I thought it was pretty cool to see Paula Dean’s restaurant, The Lady & Sons. I am a Food Network lover, and although I don’t necessarily cook many Paula Dean recipes, I usually watch her shows because she is just so darn cute! Also, my Aunt has read her autobiography and had told me how Mrs. Dean got her start… what an inspirational story! Paula is cute and remarkably smart!

We had a yummy dinner at an intimate Mediterranean spot where the girls munched on pita bread and tzatziki while we waited for our main course. Jess would have loved to dine at a 5 star eatery, with white table cloths, 3 servers per table and where you could hear a fork drop from across the restaurant, but my anxiety level attempting to fine dine with toddler{s} in tow would have hit the richter scale and I begged her to reconsider. She loves me, so she obliged. This was a great compromise…still great food, without all the fuss {but oh, how I love all the fuss! Next time, Jess!}.
By the time we had filled our bellies with Greek salad, chicken, rice and vegetables, we could have very easily gone straight to sleep, and that is exactly what the little ones did! Taking Savannah in at night, and after a big dinner, meant these toddlers enjoyed the sights from behind their eyelids!
Sweet Ilah and Alina passed the heck out and stayed that way for the next couple hours as the Mommas strolled through beautiful Savannah at night, by the light of the moon and stars. Being introduced to Savannah at night was a wonderful way to take in nuisances of the city’s beauty that I may have overlooked the next morning. Along the cobble stone streets and within the squares, as well as many of the most grand buildings, was up-lighted in the most warm, amber hue. Despite the brisk weather, my heart and soul felt warm: that feeling of warmth that only surrounding myself in a new environment does. I heart traveling!
Those few hours were some of the most fun Jess and I had. As we walked through the sleepy town, we talked and laughed without ceasing. We were even serenaded by a musician playing the saxophone under a street light! The girls finally woke up when we stopped to grab a warm cup of coffee. I wonder what was so fascinating to them ;)

Although they would have preferred ice cream, the night’s fun continued with a quite hilarious spectacle of indulgence… To see pictures of the girls woofing down apple core and all, click on this photo memory!
