Savannah Historic District

Savannah Historic District
Savannah Historic District is one the most tranquil and picturesque places I have ever been to in the States. The exquisite architecture of century old buildings running along cobble stone streets, manicured gardens engulfed by even older oak trees…and don’t even get me started on the Spanish moss! It’s everywhere, and I love it! Dripping down from above, framing every corner you turn. Ahhh, loveit!

 Savannah Historic District
Savannah was established in 1733 and was the first state capital of Georgia. As you walk through the district, you can truly sense the level of history you are surrounded in. In fact, this area of Savannah was declared a National Historic Landmark District in 1966. To get better acculmated with Savannah Historic District, Jessica suggested we take a horse carriage, guided tour… and that’s exactly what we did! After the horsey ride, we took off on foot, exploring the twenty two park like squares in more detail…

We also toured the birthplace of Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts. The home was built in 1818 and consists of three stories, each floor being roughly 2200 square feet. It was an amazingly beautiful home! Having been a member of the Girl Scouts of the USA since my days as a Daisy, this was especially cool. Juliette Gordon Low was a remarkable woman with a fascinating story of resilience and perseverance. My God daughter is currently a Girl Scout, so I got her a couple patches and a friendship pin for her sash that can only be purchased {earned} in Savannah. She is my very first babygirl love, and it makes me happy that we have this connection in common.

As this post can grow to be entirely too long, I’ll stop now. Between Jessica and I, we took hundreds of pictures just on this day alone. Savannah Historic District is truly a magic place. I look forward to visiting in the Spring, when the flowers are in bloom and the air is less crisp. Visit this post to see our adventures of Savannah at Night. Next recap up is of Savannah’s River Street!
