The Very Hungry Caterpillar Party!

Can you believe little Sebas is turning one in just a couple weeks? Although I want to sit and ponder how time has taken away my baby…. I have a party to plan! A Very Hungry Caterpillar Party, to be exact! I picked the theme to Sebastian’s first birthday party a loong time ago. I wanted to keep with our birthday traditions of a literary themed first birthday party (Alina’s first birthday was Dr. Seuss theme} and have always loved Eric Carle’s illustrations, so it seemed like a natural fit. Also, I was seeing so many adorable ideas fluttering through Pinterest lately. Here is my Very Hungry Caterpillar Party Pinterest Board, in case you want to see some of my favorites.

Because I want his first to be as wonderful as ever, I am enlisting my party planning team (my Sister and Step Mom) to help. We have been working hard on his special day for months and just a couple weeks ago I sent out his party invitations…

*Edited 7/2014: After lots of emails, I finally did a quick tutorial on how to edit this Very Hungry Caterpillar party invitation. See bottom of the post for more details.

Don’t you just want to eat his little face up?! Originally, I wanted to make an accordion like worm invitation, but decided to make a graphic one instead (much easier to make!). I think it turned out pretty cute, and I had a blast making it.

I also love a free printable! So, for my first free printable offering at De Su Mama, I am happy to offer Sebastian’s Very Hungry Caterpillar Party inviation to my worm-tastic readers. Because I love ya’ll! I took off our wording and Sebastian’s picture, so you can customize it. Use it however you want. It’s yours for the taking and keeping. With mucho amor {with lots of love}, From me to you!

You can download here, or I will be posting the image over on the De Su Mama Facebook page for easier download. Feel free to email me if you have any questions, too! After the party, I plan to post a few of the other features we’ve designed too. So come back! Check out our Very Hungry Caterpillar Free Printable thank you card! They were so cute on the take home bags we gave away.

As we were sitting in the Emergency Room late last night (um, ya. more on that some other time), I couldn’t help but say a little prayer of gratitude for my son. His growth and our journey together has been nothing short of amazing. I’ve learned so much about joy and energy and never take for granted the feeling of tiny arms’ sweet embrace because of my boy. We are certainly different, but having a son really does make me a better mom.

I love you, Sebastian! I can’t wait to celebrate your Very Hungry Caterpillar party with our loved ones and friends! It’s sure to be one your Dad and I will cherish forever.

Te quiero por siempre, mi hijo.

    Hola,
I was wondering under what program would I save the free pintable for the invite and could I change the wrding from one to two? Any help is greatly appreciated and its very nice of you to offer this free printable.
    Thank you,
    Gabriela Patino

    • Hi Gabriela,
The file is a regular jpeg, so you can use which ever program to edit the printable. I use Photoshop Elements, in addition to an online service called PicMonkey that is fantastic. You can probably try to use the clone tool to erase the ‘one’ text, or even apply a white overlay. Hope that helps!

Thanx, I actually finished them last night. It saved under windows live gallery and from there I chose a tool bar at the top that reads extra’s and clicked on it. It gives you the option to open with and I chose paint. It allowed me to copy and paste and do it on microsoft office publisher. I really appreciate the free download because every where I looked they had a fee. I love your blog by the way.

    • That’s great Gabriela… so happy that worked out for you! And you are most welcome – I’m happy to share a little bit of love for the people who visit the blog. Enjoy your party!

Hi! Thanks so much for the free printable! I have 3 boys and felt like I had every birthday party out there. I did this theme for Izaiah’s first birthday a couple weeks ago and it turned out great! I’m back on to get the thank you printable now. Again, thanks for all the cute ideas!

Hi. How gorgeous does your little man look! Love his pre birthday photo shoot too. I’m just wondering how do I add the photo to the invitation? I didn’t have Photoshop Elements but have downloaded a trial version, so I can get my little man’s invites out soon as.
    Cheers :-)

  5. Thank you so much for sharing your sweet and free download! I am adding my own information and photo to the card but wanted to say thank you! I will tag your blog when I complete my invite. Thanks for sharing!

  13. Hi, love your blog. You have such a beautiful family. Thank you for the free download for both the invite and the Thank You card. Would it be possible for you to email me a jpeg for both? My little bear will be one in a couple of months and the Hungry Caterpillar theme is just so much fun.

  14. Hello i am kavin, its my first occasion to commenting anyplace, when
i read this paragraph i thought i could also make comment due to this sensible article.

  15. Absolutely love your blog and gorgeous idea for a first birthday party! Thank you so so much for the gorgeous download invite. Trying so hard to edit it on picmonkey but feeling rather silly! Can’t work out how to shape the pic to fit it in the O?? Any tips? Would the jpeg be easier to use on a different program like powerpoint or something for the technically challenged!!!
    Thanks so much!

    • You’re sweet, Jen… thank you! Have you worked with PicMonkey before? Try using their cutouts to create a circle jpg or png of your image (a png with a transparent background would be easiest for editing), save to your desktop, then upload as your own overlay on top of the O. Hope that helps!

  16. Could you email me the template? I am having trouble getting it to download. :(

  17. I was wondering what is the best way to print this? I was going to do 5×7 prints but it crops too much of the invite out.
    Thanks,
    Ashley
