GoldieBlox and the Dunk Tank Toy Review: My Fave Christmas Gift

Goldie Blox at Walmart review

Of all the Christmas gifts and toys my daughter will receive this holiday season, there’s one that I am most excited to play with: GoldieBlox and the Dunk Tank!

GoldieBlox, a toy company out to inspire the next generation of female engineers, is the perfect gift for girls and boys who love to tinker and build. Construction toys help children develop spatial skills and get them interested in math and science, plus it’s all wrapped in one cute box! GoldieBlox toys also helps teach engineering principles (hinges and levers) and builds confidence in problem-solving.

I’m super excited that Walmart asked me to check out GoldieBlox and the Dunk Tank. While I was tempted to choose a construction kit that includes Ruby, Goldie’s brown skinned friend, because she most resembles my multiracial children, I decided that Alina’s love of dogs surpassed her outward appearance. After I saw the benefits of these toys though, I just went ahead and bought Ruby’s GoldieBlox kit, too! Goldie, her dog Nacho and friend Ruby will all be making an appearance under our Christmas tree this year.

Here’s what I love about GoldieBlox….

Goldie Blox and the Dunk Tank

First and foremost, Goldie has a dog… named Nacho. How cute is that? Also, since my daughter is a huge dog-lover, she is super engaged with the toy. Being able to manipulate Nacho’s surroundings – in addition to dunking him in water – has created various ways to play with this toy.

The toy also comes with a wonderfully illustrated book that tells the story of how Goldie has to find a way to get Nacho clean. The only problem is: Nacho hates water and loves being a dirty dog. After many tries to get Nacho clean, Goldie finally comes up with the perfect contraption. As your child reads along, they help Goldie build a dunk tank (and learn about hinges and levers) to get Nacho clean so everyone can go to the carnival on time.

The toy is labeled for ages 4+. My almost 6 year year old has loved it and plays with the tools for hours, although not always in the direction the toy intended (she loves assembling the parts into a doghouse for Nacho), but my almost 4 year old isn’t quite old enough. Ultimately, I think a mature 4 year old would great with this toy.

In the end though, I think that’s my most favorite part of the GoldieBlox toy series: there is no wrong way to play with these toys!
