Family Vegas Blog

Over the holiday weekend, my family attended a Las Vegas’ MiLB 51’s game {our local minor league baseball team} at the Cashman Center with new friends and their four sweet kids. I met Marlene, the owner of an adorable resale boutique near my home, a few months back and we clicked immediately. All of our kids {ages varying from 15 to 1.5 years old} had a great time at the 51’s game. Tickets are affordable, the entertainment is plentiful and nothing beats a baseball game on a warm summer evening. There are always promotions going on as well {we each got patriot caps in celebration of the 4th of July} so make sure to check the website for more info. Although this was our first game of the 2011 season, Alina was a regular cheerleader for our home team last season! For my Vegas blog readers, consider an evening enjoying this American past time…

Unfortunately for Vegas sports lovers, there aren’t many choices in the realm of professional teams. But we have a pretty good minor league baseball program! They always kill the visiting team when we attend, so we are either good luck or the team is just that good. Even still, every game we’ve been to has been far from a sold out crowd, and while that means shorter lines at the concession stands, I wonder why more Vegas families don’t take advantage of this great American past-time and come out to support our local team.

I grew up spending summer evenings at Dodger stadium, and because of people I knew in the world of baseball, have attended more minor leagues games than I can count. For the baseball enthusiast or novice, nothing compares to rooting for your local team. So come on, Vegas! Take your family out to the ball game! There are peanuts and cracker jacks and so many memories to be made! The Vegas 51’s organization is yet another family friendly gem of this awesome city.

Alina, although not as “easy” as last season when she was a mere 6 months and totally immobile, had a ball {pun intended} at the game. She was up and down the stairs, cheering and clapping, and soaking in all the attention from other fans. She even got a taste of her first churro! Having those four extra kiddos to entertain the busy 17 month old was a bonus, too. Thanks, kiddos!

If you are a local and have yet to catch a 51’s game, I suggest you pack up the family and head down to the Cashman Center for a fun night out! Check out The Official Site of Minor League Baseball for information on schedules, kids programs and special events.

Play ball!
