The traditional Cuban recipe smoothie is a combination of a milkshake and fruit smoothie and this one is a tropical smoothie with mango and papaya. Although batida is the word for “milkshake”, here in the States it could also be considered a smoothie. A Mango Papaya Smoothie typically uses milk or yogurt, whereas our milkshakes are made with ice cream. Am I right? Anyway, smoothies are always a good idea – especially when combined with two of Cuba’s most famous flavors!

Mango Papaya Smoothie: Traditional Cuban Recipe

I love walking into the store and being greeted with a sea of tropical fresh fruit. I grew up on these flavors, so being able to feed them to my kids always feels great. The aromas and flavors take me back to my childhood. And since both of my babies love mangoes, we bought a few to make this traditional Cuban recipe over the weekend. Look at the colors on this vibrant Mango and Papaya Smoothie!

How to Make Papaya Mango Smoothie

Here’s what you’ll need to make a Papaya Mango smoothie the tradition Cuban way…

– 2 cups fresh mango, cubed

– 2 cups fresh papaya, cubed

– 2 cups milk (I used non-fat)

– 2 teaspoons Liquid Cane Sugar

– handful of ice cubes

Add all the ingredients into a blender and puree well. We use high powered blenders like the Vitamix or Ninja Professional to thoroughly break down the fiber of greens so the smoothie is smooth. Enjoy your traditional Cuban smoothie and the rich flavors of summer! Serve with a bit of mint to elevate the aroma and add some color.
