Spanish Kindergarten Activities: Photo Scavenger Hunt

Since my daughter started school at a Spanish immersion program, I’ve been on the hunt for ways to reinforce language education at home. There are some great Spanish Kindergarten activities out there, but this photo scavenger hunt is a simple game that the family can play anywhere – including sitting in LA traffic jams!

All you need is this Spanish scavenger list (Download free below! I made it specifically with Dual Immersion Spanish Kindergarten students in mind), a tablet to take photos and videos, and some creativity.

Spanish Activities for Kindergarten

I’m so thrilled that Alina is learning Spanish at school… every day she comes home with another vocabulary word, more questions and a deeper desire to immerse herself in the language. The prompts on this scavenger hunt are meant for little Spanish learners but is vague enough for them to use their imagination and creativity. We used our new tablet to take photos of the items, and even shot a video to complete a few things on the list!

During our hunt, Alina used the front facing camera to take a picture of herself for the prompt “yo”. She found a wall of yummy magnets to complete various prompts, too. As we walked around and had dinner, the whole family became engrossed in her Spanish photo scavenger hunt!

Her Spanish Learning Tool

Because of its affordability and perfect size, an affordable tablet has become our ultimate Spanish learning tool. She loves that colors stay true no matter what angle the tablet is being held and that she can listen to her favorite Spanish music, play educational games or watch her favorite Spanish YouTube Kids channels with great sound. I love that she has her very own tablet and Spanish learning tool that allows for independence while she explores the love of language.

I’ve never had a tablet before, so i can’t attest to specific apps as learning tools. I believe they would be helpful because they can help children and adults visualize the information they’re meant to be learn and, more importantly, they can respond to feedback from the learner to tailor content that supplements the areas where the learner needs the most help.

I love learning apps. They know how to capture the kids attention with their sights and sounds and all the while kids are mesmerized by them, they are learning! My kiddos love ABC mouse at the moment.

The scavenger hunt looks so fun! I love that you can take pictures with this tablet. I would love to take pictures and use them as prompts for my son. We have a chart for chores and several other things and using pictures would be beneficial. I also love to use tablets to refer to something in history or in geography. It’s so much easier for kids to look at pictures instead of just reading about a country or event.

Tablets can be a lifesaver for many reasons. For a kid with learning disabilities it can help them find a fun way to learn by visualizing what is asked of them. There’s also people who say high pitched voices help children grasp better what is said and those catchy songs teaching a kid to brush teeth makes the forget they are learning and thing it’s just fun. Tablets can be wonderful tools.

I LOVE using technology and appreciate this post even more as it encourages me to not count on the curriculum (or lack there of), but to build my own learning opportunities. It’s not easy to find language programs for kids who are just beginning to read (especially Portuguese), and I love that a lot of your suggestions can be used for other languages and cultures as well

My tip for using a tablet as an educational tool for your children is to choose age appropriate apps and make sure the text is big enough for them to see.

We don’t own a tablet so I don’t know of any specific apps to recommend. I would download apps that combine learning and games so there is a sense of achievement and fun.

The only reason I have a tablet is for my daughters educational games and apps. I have so many but my favorite one right now is The Sight Word Adventure. It has been extremely helpful!
