Teach Kids To Grow A Garden Indoors: AeroGarden 3SL

I’ve been on the hunt for holiday gifts that teach the kids a skill-set, in addition to being fun. Fun is great, but who said learning something new wasn’t fun?! We had a great time testing a Walmart’s Chosen By Kids Toy that teach kids to sew (a skill I would love to pick up!), so when they asked me to review the exclusive Miracle-Gro AeroGarden 3SL, I started thinking… why do kids’ presents have to be made specifically for kids? They don’t!

Keeping a garden outside, in the dirt, is wonderful. But some of us either can’t (or don’t) make that happen. After setting up the AeroGarden 3SL with the kids, I can’t believe how easy it is to grow an indoor garden!

Although it’s compact in size, the Miracle-Gro AeroGarden 3SL is able to grow 3 plants – even without soil. The 3SL kit that is exclusive to Walmart contains: the AeroGarden unit (available in black and white), a Grow Light bulb, the water reservoir and the grow deck where your Seed Pods go. The kit comes with a pack of 3 Garden Herb Seed Pods so you can start growing immediately after setup. It’s narrow design makes it perfect for small spaces, including a kid’s room!

Obviously you’ll want to make sure your little one is mature enough for this responsibility (and I’m not even sure my almost five year old is!), but I really love the idea of having this small indoor (fool-proof) garden become something they feel ownership over. For now, our garden sits in the kitchen where we can all enjoy the growth of our basil, parsley and dill sprout.

The seedling kits also comes with nutrient rich plant food that, as you can see, I added incorrectly! (Guess who’s the fool that can’t grow an indoor garden?!). The liquid plant food actually is supposed to be added underneath this little tray, not above. Silly me! I was going to take different photos, but decided to leave them as-is in case anyone else is confused. Thank goodness for the other Walmart Moms whose AeroGarden’s reviews helped solve the mystery of where to add the liquid plant food.

An indoor garden can be grown all year round and with the AeroGarden 3SL from Walmart, you can grow everything from Basil, Dill, Chives, Mint, Cilantro, Parsley, Cherry Tomatoes, Chili Peppers, Lettuces, Petunias, and more, all year too!
