Easter Egg Salad Sandwich: Holiday Food Traditions

With both of my babies finally able to sit still and follow directions (hello, toddler boys!), we’re having fun with all sorts of Easter holiday food traditions… mainly dying Easter eggs. Counting this Easter Egg Salad Sandwich recipe, we’ve dyed Easter eggs 3 times already! Ha! That is definitely a record for us.

Walmart’s seasonal aisles are filled with the cutest crafts and tools you need for some fabulous holiday food traditions, so I’ve stocked up. Bring the kids into the kitchen and enjoy creating food art and holiday food memories they’ll love. I’ve partnered with Walmart to share this recipe today, too!

To make this simple holiday food, you’ll need:

8 hard boiled eggs, flesh dyed and chopped

1/2 cup mayonnaise

1 tablespoon pickled relish, or to taste

1 teaspoon yellow mustard

salt and pepper to taste

Boil the eggs and allow to cool completely. While your eggs are boiling, prepare the dye by mixing a bit of food dye with water; avoid vinegar unless you want the flavor in your sammie. I used red, blue and green food dye. Yellow was already mixed in with the yolk! Once they’re cool to the touch, half the hard boiled eggs lengthwise and remove yolk, setting it inside a mixing bowl. Take each half and immerse in prepared food dye. Let the egg sit in the dye bath for 3-5 minutes, rotating them as needed. Remove and rinse, before chopping and adding the dyed egg to the mixing bowl.

Add the rest of the ingredients and delicately mix. Top on some good ol’ fashion white bread (Walmart has a tasty Great Value variety that costs next to nothing.) We aren’t regular white bread eaters, but it was the perfect bread for this Easter Egg Salad Sandwich! I did add some Organic Baby Kale, found in Walmart’s produce aisle, for freshness and crunchy.
