Our Home: 5 Elements of a Memory Making Backyard

Setting Up Our Backyard for Family Legacy

In dreaming up an outdoor oasis that makes me happy, it always comes down to family legacy. For me, that means a backyard where the kids can play and feel comfortable, where we can create family meals and where Daddy D and I can sit comfortably while listening to the laughter of our children.

Thanks to a sponsored partnership with Pier 1 Imports and Latina Bloggers Connect, I was able to see my ambitions come to life.

Elements of a Memory Making Backyard

The first element of a memory making backyard is cleanliness. Sure, it’s a backyard, but especially for me, if the space isn’t clean and organized for memory making, we won’t use it. It doesn’t matter the size or type of space you have; if it’s not cared for, and treated like a valuable asset to memory making, it just won’t work.

Secondly, I learned that color is a big deal! I had no idea how blah my backyard felt until I added the vibrant colors that Pier 1 Imports is known for. For my outdoor space, I wanted bold and happy colors that put my family in the mood for memory making. The gals at my local Pier 1 Imports were so sweet, helping me mix color and patterns to coordinate with the fabric I choose for a DIY Fabric Panel. Now my backyard feels like a happy springtime oasis that is perfect for family legacy!

If you follow me on Instagram, you saw the pillow arrangement I fell in love with at the Pier 1 store… I had to replicate it! Making your seating comfortable is the third element of memory making spaces. Daddy D would disagree that pillows make a space comfortable (he says the only end up on the ground), but I’m happier with them. These pillows can make anything comfortable! I love the various textures and patters, and feel that it makes the space interesting. I also love that they’re made of weather resistant fabric too!

The fourth element for a memory making backyard was to create a space for conversation. While the love seat with colorful pillows is a comfortable space, I adore the the arrangement of two chairs for intimate conversation. Daddy D and I sit here on warms nights, watching the kids play, smelling the aromas of our dinner grilling, sipping a glass of wine. It’s truly blissful. I added pops of color with this gorgeous garden stool in green and striped outdoor pillows.

Lastly, but probably most important, our backyard is a memory making space because my kids adore it. It has purpose. My mom got them this awesome swing set for Christmas, and they play on it every single day. They eat lunch in the playhouse, build forts, swing – they love it. Help your family make lasting memories by giving a space purpose and definition. Now, with our beautiful new patio from Pier 1, Daddy D and I can enjoy making memories with our kids and together as a couple – all from our outdoor oasis.
